TCCdesigner digital design

TCCdesigner – Digital design of timber-concrete composite floors

Timber and hybrid construction place high demands on planning, calculation and execution. Timber-concrete composite (TCC) floors, in particular, require precise structural design and a reliable digital basis for planning. With TCCdesignerholz.bau forschungs gmbh provides a specialised software tool that meets precisely these requirements. It was developed specifically for the calculation and design of TCC structures and supports planners and engineers in the standard-compliant and efficient design of modern composite floors.

A standards-compliant basis for design

The calculations in TCCdesigner are based on the technical specification ONR CEN/TS 19103:2022. This ensures consistent and traceable design. The tool is therefore suitable for both traditional construction projects and demanding applications in modern multi-storey timber construction.

Structured modelling of structural elements

A key feature of TCCdesigner is the detailed and flexible modelling of composite floors. Different component layers and materials can be precisely defined, including:

  • concrete grades and Shrinkage rates of concrete
  • climatic boundary conditions
  • multi-layered timber structures such as cross-laminated timber (CLT)
  • fasteners such as screws and shear connectors
  • geometric and mechanical properties of the connections
  • different designs: flat slab, ribbed slab, Dippelbaum slab

This structure enables realistic representation of complex designs and facilitates the analysis of design alternatives during the planning phase.

Comprehensive verification and transparent results

TCCdesigner not only provides structural analysis but also detailed reports for technical documentation. These include:

  • Stress distributions in the cross-section
  • Internal forces and load distributions
  • Verifications for the Ultimate Limit State (ULS) and Serviceability Limit State (SLS)
  • Vibration analyses for comfort-related assessments
  • Structured calculation reports for project documentation

The results are clearly presented and facilitate transparent communication between design, verification and execution.

The TCCdesigner is being further developed and refined by holz.bau.forschungs.gmbh, under the leadership of Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Alexandra Thiel, who plays a key role in linking research, digital planning and practical application in timber construction. Similarly, the collaboration with SIHGA is a key component of the tool’s further development: we are particularly proud that SIHGA fasteners, amongst other things, are already integrated into the tool in version 1.0 and are taken into account in the design.

The TCCdesigner thus demonstrates how research, industry and digital tools are jointly advancing timber construction. We recommend downloading the tool free of charge and using it directly in your day-to-day planning work to fully exploit the benefits of digital TCC design.
